How do I know which laboratory safety training to complete?
All laboratory workers (PIs, lab managers, lab supervisors, lab/student workers) must complete the General Laboratory Safety Training (classroom session) offered by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) before they begin work in a laboratory.
Other training sessions offered by EHS:
- Cryogenic Safety (Online)
- Inventory Reporting for Tier II (Online)
- Laboratory Safety for Teaching Assistants (Online)
- General Laboratory Safety (Classroom)
Cryogenic fluids are extremely cold liquefied gases, such as liquid nitrogen or liquid oxygen, and are used to obtain extremely cold temperatures. As such, there are certain risks associated with handling cryogenic liquids. The online cryogenic safety training helps prepare laboratory workers handle and work safely with the cryogens.
Online Inventory Reporting for Tier IIThe Inventory Reporting for Tier II training will guide you through the EHS assistant software to assist with the annual Tier II chemical inventory reporting.
Online Laboratory Safety for Training Assistants (LSTA)LSTA Training is specifically tailored to train the teaching assistants to prepare them for their work in the laboratory and in turn teach them to train the students working in the laboratory.
General Laboratory SafetyThis classroom instruction also includes Hazard Communication training. General Laboratory Safety Training will prepare laboratory beginners to work safely in the laboratories.
