Texas A&M University is committed to the safe and compliant operation of all equipment generating ionizing radiation. To this end, our team ensures comprehensive oversight, including mandatory registration and regular inspection of these devices, to ensure that research, veterinary, and clinical activities meet the highest safety standards.
Scope of Oversight
From advanced research instruments to life-saving diagnostic equipment, our team manages a diverse range of radiation technologies and oversees the registration and inspection of all radiation-producing devices on campus. Our program encompasses three key categories:
Analytical Research
Devices used for advanced research, including:
- X-ray Diffraction (XRD)
- X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)
- X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)
Veterinary Use (Diagnostic and Therapeutic)
This category includes diagnostic and therapeutic radiation devices employed in animal care settings.
Human Use (Diagnostic)
We also oversee diagnostic radiation devices utilized for human health assessments.
RPDs Mandatory Training
To ensure the highest standards of safety, we provide required radiation safety training for all personnel working with the devices in the categories listed above. This training equips users with the necessary knowledge and best practices for safe operation.
