Program Areas
AirProtecting air quality through effective emissions monitoring.
In compliance with the Clean Air Act, Texas A&M maintains various air operating permits for campus infrastructure, including boilers, emergency generators, and research equipment. This team assists with permit applications and renewals, evaluates emissions, and files required reports to ensure that campus growth does not compromise air quality.
Chemical WasteManaging hazardous chemical waste disposal compliantly and safely.
This program area coordinates the collection, processing, and disposal of hazardous chemical waste from laboratories, shops, and facilities across campus. Using tracking software (CampusOptics) and safety protocols, it supports regulatory compliance, prevents pollution at the source, and ensures efficient, effective waste management.
Environmental Management SystemsDriving continuous improvement through a systematic framework for performance and compliance.
Environmental management systems are a structured process to enhance environmental performance while supporting regulatory compliance by going beyond basic legal requirements and focusing on a broader footprint – including energy use, waste reduction, and sustainable purchasing.
Reporting an Environmental ConcernEmpowering Aggies to report environmental issues.
Maintaining a safe, healthy campus requires shared responsibility. We offer a confidential, streamlined reporting process for students, faculty, staff, and visitors who notice any illicit discharges, improper chemical disposal, or other environmental hazards.
Spill Prevention and ResponseMinimizing environmental impact via swift, proactive response.
Our Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan ensures robust infrastructure and training to prevent oil and chemical spills at the university. In the event of an accidental release, we're equipped to coordinate and provide technical support to swiftly contain spills.
Stormwater ManagementSafeguarding water systems from campus runoff.
Our Stormwater Management Program targets three key regulatory areas in Texas: Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s), industrial activities, and construction runoff. Through our Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP), we implement Best Management Practices to prevent prohibited and hazardous discharges and protect our streams and aquatic life.
Leadership Team
Behind the scenes, these initiatives are led by a group of proactive, experienced, and committed professionals dedicated to the university’s mission and working across departments to provide training, consultation, and emergency response services that uphold the highest standards of environmental safety.
