Report an Environmental Concern

To report any environmental issues on campus, please contact us at 979-845-2132 or the Communications Center at 979-845-4311.

Maybe you see a strange ponding of water, a discolored area of grass around a transformer, oil/gasoline flowing directly into a waterway on campus, foaming at a waterway on campus, or an obvious fish kill. When you encounter this type of issue, notify Environmental Health and Safety (EHS).

After you report an environmental concern, a member of the Environmental Compliance group will contact you to discuss the details. Please be ready to provide the following information:

  • The nature of the issue
  • The specific location where the issue or incident occurred
  • When it occurred (including date and time)
  • Any potential sources of the problem
  • Any relevant information or evidence you may have, such as eyewitness accounts, documents, or photographs
EHS will investigate to identify the cause and will take necessary actions to remediate any identified issues.

In cases of an immediate threat to public health or the environment, a swift response will be initiated. While some complaints may require more time for investigation, rest assured that EHS treats every concern with utmost seriousness and will investigate all matters within its jurisdiction.

Investigation Process

Once we receive your complaint and any accompanying evidence, we take the following steps:

Step 1: Review

The Environmental Compliance team will review the given information. They will call to discuss your complaint and any information or evidence you have, if needed.

Step 2: On-site Investigation

In most cases, an on-site investigation will be conducted to determine whether any environmental regulations have been violated.

Step 3: In Case of a Violation

If the investigation reveals a violation, we will take appropriate action to notify the proper authorities of the incident and of our efforts to remediate it.

Step 4: No Violation Found

If the investigation reveals no violation but indicates the need for attention, we will initiate actions to resolve the situation and make improvements to prevent a recurrence.
