Recycling Initiatives
Terracycle's EasyPak Recycling Program
Terracycle offers the EasyPak™ recycling program, which provides a safe and convenient way to recycle fluorescent bulbs, batteries, and ballasts. This comprehensive package includes a UN-certified container, shipping to the recycling center, recycling fees, and a recycling certificate.
Please note: Only fluorescent bulbs used on lab equipment are eligible for this program.
Battery Recycling
Utilize Texas A&M's established battery recycling program. Important notes include:
- Alkaline batteries do not require recycling and can be disposed of in regular trash, with the University able to safely dispose of approximately 180,000 lbs per day.
- Non-alkaline batteries can be recycled by placing them in a designated battery box provided by the Chemical Waste Program.
- For efficiency, consider having a building manager install a single battery box for all labs if individual labs do not use many non-alkaline batteries.
For more information, contact Jason Ward, Chemical Waste Program Manager, Environmental Health and Safety Dept., at (979) 845-3498 or jsward@tamu.edu.
Electronic Recycling
All electronic equipment and cords purchased by Texas A&M should be de-inventoried and brought to Building 0957 (Storage and Purchasing). This equipment is then auctioned off, preventing it from ending up in landfills and giving it a second life.
Kimberly-Clark PPE Recycling
Kimberly-Clark Professional has developed The RightCycle™ Program, an innovative initiative for recycling personal protective equipment (PPE). This program ensures that used items such as protective clothing, nitrile gloves, and safety glasses are collected and recycled into new consumer goods rather than sent to landfills.
VWR Garment Recycling
VWR offers an efficient recycling program for used disposable apparel, encompassing collection, shipment, and processing. Recycled plastic waste is transformed into resin, which is used to manufacture permanent infrastructure such as composite decking, railroad ties, and drainage pipes.
Triumvirate Environmental Medical Waste Recycling
Instead of sending regulated medical waste to landfills, consider Triumvirate's Red2Green program, which recycles red bag medical waste into plastic lumber. This creative recycling helps reduce costs and boosts sustainability metrics by repurposing medical waste for landscaping, construction, pallets, and trailers.
Pipet Tip Box Recycling Program Managed by TerraCycle
This simple recycling program provides a comprehensive solution for collecting, shipping, and recycling used pipette tip boxes from all brands. After collection, TerraCycle processes the plastic waste into recycled resin.
Corning Recycling Program
Participate in Corning's packaging recycling program for Corning®, Falcon®, and Axygen® product packaging. Corning is dedicated to environmental stewardship and continuous process improvement. Selected customers can participate in this program free of charge.
New England BioLabs Sustainable Cold Shipping and Polystyrene Recycling
New England BioLabs introduces a 100% recyclable alternative to EPS shipping, designed to maintain cold-temperature shipping conditions. Partnering with TemperPack®, their ClimaCell® paper-based insert ensures temperature stability throughout delivery, and the entire box can be recycled with other corrugated cardboard after use.
Aerosol Can Recycling
For effective recycling of aerosol cans, please follow appropriate disposal guidelines to ensure safety and environmental responsibility.
Millipore Sigma Polystyrene Cooler Return Program
We are pleased to introduce our Polystyrene Cooler Return Program for customers in the United States, designed to minimize waste and reduce the amount of material sent to landfills. By participating in this initiative, you can help promote sustainability in your lab.
