Chemical Waste

What is the process for requesting chemical waste removal?

EHS manages the disposal of chemical waste for the main campus. We collect and process chemical waste from campus labs and shops in compliance with federal and state regulations. The waste is processed for disposal in the most environmentally sound and cost-effective method available.
EHS uses chemical waste tracking software to schedule pickup of chemical waste from on-campus facilities. This online program operates in real time, so it processes chemical waste pickup requests in the order they are received.

Environmental Management

What is the protocol for reporting a potential environmental hazard or illicit discharge?
Any observation of illicit discharges (anything other than clean stormwater entering a drain), chemical spills to soil or water, or unusual odors should be reported immediately. This includes "strange ponding," discolored grass near transformers, or oily/foaming waterways. Report concerns to EHS at 979-845-2132 or the Communications Center at 979-845-4311. Be prepared to provide the date, time, exact location, and a description of the source or any eyewitness information.
How can individuals or groups participate in the annual campus Stream Clean event?

Registration for the Stream Clean is managed through the EHS website during active sign-up windows, typically in the spring.

During Stream Clean, participants help remove debris from the White Creek and Wolf Pen Creek systems that run through campus. Groups can select specific "zones" to clean, and EHS provides all necessary safety gear and waste collection materials.
